In 1979 President Carter’s name was a cuss word on Taiwan

For a period after Carter recognized Beijing instead of Taipei as China’s capital, British in Taipei were angry at Americans.

Taiwan folks angry at Americans for this betrayal were breaking windshields of cars owned by British by mistake

It was an honest mistake. Who can tell the difference before you hear them speak.

In only a few weeks, I was alone in Taiwan. All Americans gone.
